`
`Date of Interview: 08 March 2023
`
`Issues Discussed:
`
`35 U.S.C. 112
`
`Paragraph [0017] of the specification teaches "[p]yrolytic graphite-based carbon is excellent in thermal
`conductivity in a plane direction. Therefore, even if heat generation of heat generating component12 is
`localized, generated heat can be quickly diffused in the plane direction and transmitted to pressing
`component 13. Thus, the heat can beefficiently dissipated." Based upon this description and the figures
`of the application, how does one knowthat the pyrolytic graphite-based carbon is oriented horizontally
`so that the in-plane direction of the film is orientedin thefirst direction that faces the heat generating
`component, rather than being oriented as shownin the Taira reference usedin the final office action
`dated 12/6/22?
`
`35 U.S.C. 102
`
`The Taira reference meets the limitation of "the graphite-based carbon film has a thermal conductivity in
`a plane direction ofthe first surface, and the thermal conductivity in the plane direction ofthe first surface
`is larger than a thermal conductivity in a direction perpendicularto the first surface" because the upper
`and lower horizontal portions of "c"-shaped graphite-based carbon film has this thermal conductivity
`property in upper and lowerhorizontal portions ofthe film.
`
`35 U.S.C. 103
`
`Discussed figs 1(b) and 2(c) [depicting horizontal orientedfillers] and 1(c) and 2(d) [depicting vertically
`orientedfillers] of Murakami (US 2020/0024496) reference. Would having a horizontally oriented
`graphite film be an obvious variant of the vertically oriented graphite film of Taira reference?
