`
`CLAIM AMENDMENTS
`
`This listing of claims will replace all prior versions, and listings, of claims in the
`
`application:
`
`1. (Currently Amended) A rotary impact tool comprising:
`
`a rotary driving mechanism including a motor that rotates a driving shaft;
`
`a hammer engaged with the driving shaft;
`
`an output shaft to which a driving force is applied by impact blow of the hammer;
`
`a main switch operated by a user that controls a fastening operation; and
`
`a controller that controls on and off of the motor, and having a normal fastening mode
`
`and a tight fastening mode where the rotary impact tool fastens the fastening member a little
`
`further to completion of the normal fastening mode by stopping the fastening of the fastening
`
`member in normal fastening torque by restarting driving of the motor so as to apply a
`
`predetermined number of impact blows of the hammer;
`
`a time period sensor, which senses an actual time period perieds from a time when the
`
`main switch is switched on to a time when the main switch is switched off and a switch-off time
`
`m1 from a time when the main switch is switched off to a time when the main switch is
`
`switched on next; and
`
`a normal fastening time period setting switch for setting a normal fastening time period;
`
`anjrwhe’r‘eifi
`
`a tight fastening time period setting switch for setting a predetermined time period,
`
`wherein
`
`

`

`P27871.A08
`
`the time period sensor measures an actual time period from a time when the main switch
`
`is switched on first to a time when the main switch is switched off in the normal fastening mode;
`
`the controller judges whether the actual fastening time period is longer than the normal
`
`fastening time period or not;
`
`when the actual fastening time period is shorter than the normal fastening time period, the
`
`controller judges that an initial operation has been completed, and maintains the normal fastening
`
`mode;
`
`when the actual fastening time period is longer than the normal fastening time period, the
`
`controller judges that the normal fastening operation has been completed; and
`
`when the controller judges that the normal fastening operation has been completed, the
`
` controller further judges whether *— -
`
`fastening—mom a switch-off time period from the time when the main switch is
`
`switched off to the a time when the main switch is switched on next sensed by the time period
`
`sensor is shorter than the predetermined time period or not; and
`
`when the switch—off time period is shorter than the predetermined time period,
`
`the
`
`controller gives transition to the tight fastening mode from the normal fastening mode.
`
`2. (Previously Presented) The rotary impact tool in accordance with claim 1, wherein
`
`when a the actual time period is shorter than the normal fastening time period, the
`
`controller restricts transition to the tight fastening mode from the normal fastening mode.
`
`

`

`
`
`
`
`P27871.A08
`
`3. (Previously Presented) The rotary impact tool in accordance with claim 1, wherein
`
`when the main switch is switched on within the predetermined time period after
`
`completing a tight fastening operation in the tight fastening mode, the controller performs the
`
`tight fastening mode, continuously.
`
`4. (Previously Presented) The rotary impact tool in accordance with claim 1,'wherein
`
`the controller repeats tight fastening operation while the switching on of the main switch
`
`is maintained in the tight fastening mode.
`
`5. (Previously Presented) The rotary impact tool in accordance with claim 1, wherein
`
`the controller varies a quantity of impact energy in the tight
`
`fastening mode
`
`corresponding to a time period from a time when the main switch is switched on first to a time
`
`when the main switch is switched off or corresponding to a total number of impact blows of the
`
`hammer in the time period from a time when the main switch is switched on first to a time when
`
`the main switch is switched off.
`
`6. (Previously Presented) The rotary impact tool in accordance with claim 4, wherein
`
`the controller gradually reduces the quantity of impact energy in the tight fastening
`
`operation when the tight fastening operations are continuously repeated.
`
`

`

`
`
`
`
`
`
`P27871.A08
`
`7. (Previously Presented) The rotary impact tool in accordance with claim 2, wherein
`
`when the main switch is switched on in a predetermined time period after completing a
`
`tight fastening operation in the tight fastening mode, the controller gives transition to the tight
`
`fastening mode, again.
`
`8. (Previously Presented) The rotary impact tool in accordance with claim 2, wherein
`
`the controller repeats tight fastening operation while the switching on of the main switch
`
`is maintained in the tight fastening mode.
`
`9. (Previously Presented) The rotary impact tool in accordance with claim 2, wherein
`
`10. (Previously Presented) The rotary impact tool in accordance with claim 3, wherein
`
`the controller repeats tight fastening operation while the switching on of the main switch
`
`is maintained in the tight fastening mode.
`
`

`

`'P27871.A08
`
`11. (Previously Presented) The rotary impact tool in accordance with claim 4, wherein
`
`12. (Previously Presented) The rotary impact tool in accordance with claim 5, wherein
`
`the controller gradually reduces the quantity of impact energy in the tight fastening
`
`operation when the tight fastening operations are continuously repeated.
