`ABSTRACT
`
`A lithium secondary battery comprises a negative electrode, a positive
`
`electrode comprising a current collector, an active cathode material comprising a
`
`lithium transition metal complex oxide coated on the current collector, and Si1_XGeXOY
`
`(OSXS 1, OSY<2), and an electrolyte comprising at least one lithium salt and at least
`
`one solvent. The positive electrode comprising Si1_XGeXOY (OSXS 1, OSY<2)
`
`generates less heat relative to a positive electrode without Si1_XGeXOY (OSXS 1,
`
`OSY<2) throughout a state of overcharge. A method of preparing the positive
`
`electrode includes coating a current collector with the active cathode material, drying
`

`and calendaring the coated current collector to form the positive electrode, and
`
`depositing a calcinated mixture comprising Si1_XGeXOY (OSXS 1, OSY<2) on the
`
`positive electrode.
