`Claim 1 is rejected under 35 USC. 103 as being unpatentable over Seiko et al. (GB
`
`2480579) in view of Abe et al. (US. Patent Application Publication 2011/0315029).

`Seiko discloses a screen printer comprising: a mask (33) having a first (MRC or MRF)
`
`area formed with a first pattern and a second area (other of MRF or MRC) formed with a second
`
`pattern such that the first area and the second area are arranged in an arrangement direction (Y
`
`direction); a board holding/moving mechanism (31) capable of which is movable in the
`
`arrangement direction under the mask, and which comprises a board holding unit (31h) capable
`
`of which holds a board (PB) so as to allow the board to selectively contact one of the first area
`
`and the second area by moving the board holding unit; and a print head (34) capable of which
`
`forms a paste printing on the board through the mask, and which is movable on the mask in the
`
`arrangement direction, and a control device (40) capable of which controls operation of a print
`
`head moving mechanism so as to move the print head in the arrangement direction; including
`
`capable of wherein when a paste print is formed on the board contacting the first area by using
`
`the first pattern, the control device controls the print head so as to move in the arrangement
`
`direction from a start position located between the first area and the second area to the first area
`
`and then returns to the start position (Figures 9—11), and wherein when a paste print is formed on
`
`the board contacting the second area by using the second pattern, the control device controls the
`

`As to the limitations of “has a first squeegee and a second squeegee” and “wherein during
`
`movement in the arrangement direction and also during return at least one of the first and second
`
`squeegees is in contact with the mask”, Seiko teaches the print head is a paste cartridge (34).
`
`However, Seiko is not limited to a paste cartridge but teaches using a squeegee in place of the
`
`paste cartridge (Paragraph 0061) without expressly describing the operation of the print head of a
`
`squeegee other to suggest a supply using an open squeegee. A print head (15) of a squeegee is
`
`well known in the art as evidenced by Abe (Figures 10 and 15 and Paragraphs 0051 and 0060—
`
`0062) wherein the print head has a first squeegee (15a) and a second squeegee (15b) (with an
`
`opening therebetween for paste from a supply of paste considered a supply using an open
`
`squeegee) wherein when a paste print is formed on a board (2) contacting an area of a mask (13)
`
`with a pattern a control device (50) (which controls operation of a print head moving mechanism
`
`(55)) controls the print head so as to move in the arrangement direction (Y direction) from a start
`
`position to the area and returns to the start position wherein during movement in the arrangement
`
`direction and also during return at least one of the first and second squeegees is in contact with
`
`the mask. It would have been obvious to one of ordinary skill in the art before the effective
`
`filing date of the claimed invention that the print head as taught by Seiko has a first squeegee and
`
`a second squeegee configured so that during movement in the arrangement direction and also
`
`during return at least one of the first and second squeegees is in contact with the mask as taught
`
`by Abe as a simple substitution of one known print head element for another to obtain
`
`

`predictable results including which alternative of a print head of a squeegee is suggested by

`Seiko.

`Claims 1, 3, and 5 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 103 as being unpatentable over Sato (JP
`
`2011—143640 and see also the machine translation as provided in the IDS submitted 9/15/14) in
`
`view of Seiko and Abe.
`
`Sato discloses a screen printer comprising: a mask (21) having a first (211 or 212) area
`
`formed with a first pattern and a second area (other of 212 or 211) formed with a second pattern
`
`such that the first area and the second area are arranged in an arrangement direction (Y
`
`direction); a board holding/moving mechanism (10) capable of which is movable in the
`
`arrangement direction under the mask, and which comprises a board holding unit (12) capable of
`
`which holds a board so as to allow the board to selectively contact one of the first area and the
`
`second area by moving the board holding unit; and a print head (24A, 24B) of squeegee type
`
`capable of which forms a paste printing on the board through the mask, and which is movable on
`
`the mask perpendicular to the arrangement direction, including capable of wherein when a paste
`
`print is formed on the board contacting the first area by using the first pattern, a first head of the
`
`print head (24A) is capable of reciprocating considered capable of which moves perpendicular to
`
`the arrangement direction from a start position to the first area and then returns to the start
`
`position, and wherein when a paste print is formed on the board contacting the second area by
`
`using the second pattern, a second head of the print head (24B) is capable of reciprocating
`
`considered capable of which moves perpendicular to the arrangement direction from the start
`
`position to the second area and then returns to the start position (Figures 1—6 and Paragraphs
`
`0007, 0028, 0041, and 0063).

`As to the limitations of “which is movable on the mask in the arrangement direction” and
`
`“so as to move in the arrangement direction from a start position located between the first area
`
`and the second area to the first area and then returns to the start position” and “so as to move in
`
`the arrangement direction from the start position to the second area and then returns to the start
`
`position”, Sato teaches a print head comprising two heads (24A, 24B) movable on the mask
`
`perpendicular to the arrangement direction. Sato is silent as to a single print head movable on
`
`the mask in the arrangement direction both from a start position located between the first area
`
`and the second area to the first area and then returns to the start position and from the start
`
`position to the second area and then returns to the start position, it being noted Sato does not
`
`teach any criticality to using a print head comprising two heads. It is known in the same art to
`
`use a single print head (34) capable of which forms a paste printing on a board through a mask
`
`having a first area formed with a first pattern and a second area formed with a second pattern,
`
`and which is movable on the mask in the arrangement direction (Y direction), including capable
`
`of wherein when a paste print is formed on the board contacting the first area by using the first
`
`pattern, the print head moves in the arrangement direction from a start position located between
`
`the first area and the second area to the first area and then returns to the start position (Figures 9—
`
`11), and wherein when a paste print is formed on the board contacting the second area by using
`
`the second pattern, the print head moves in the arrangement direction from the start position to
`
`the second area and then returns to the start position (Figures 11 and 12) as taught by Seiko
`
`(more fully described above). It would have been obvious to one of ordinary skill in the art
`
`before the effective filing date of the claimed invention to replace the print head comprising two
`
`heads (24A, 24B) movable on the mask perpendicular to the arrangement direction as taught by
`
`

`Sato with a single print head (34) movable on the mask in the arrangement direction as taught by
`
`Seiko capable of wherein when a paste print is formed on the board contacting the first area by
`
`using the first pattern, the print head moves in the arrangement direction from a start position
`
`located between the first area and the second area to the first area and then returns to the start
`
`position and wherein when a paste print is formed on the board contacting the second area by
`
`using the second pattern, the print head moves in the arrangement direction from the start
`
`position to the second area and then returns to the start position as not only is the print head
`
`taught by Seiko a simple substitution of one known element for another to obtain predictable
`
`results but the print head taught by Seiko allows for printing on a mask having a first and second
`
`area with a print head comprising a single head, i.e. a reduction in the amount of print head
`
`apparatus required.
`
`As to the limitations of “has a first squeegee and a second squeegee”, “a control device
`
`which controls operation of the print head moving mechanism so as to move the print head in the
`
`arrangement direction”, “the control device controls the print head so as to move”, and “wherein
`
`during movement in the arrangement direction and also during return at least one of the first and
`
`second squeegees is in contact with the mask”, Seiko teaches the print head is a paste cartridge
`
`(34). However, Seiko is not limited to a paste cartridge but teaches using a squeegee in place of
`
`the past cartridge (Paragraph 0061) without expressly describing the operation of the print head
`
`of a squeegee other to suggest a supply using an open squeegee. A print head (15) of a squeegee
`
`is well known in the art as evidenced by Abe wherein the print head has a first squeegee (15a)
`
`and a second squeegee (15b) (with an opening therebetween for paste from a supply of paste
`
`considered a supply using an open squeegee) wherein when a paste print is formed on a board (2)
`

`
`second squeegees is in contact with the mask. It would have been obvious to one of ordinary
`
`skill in the art before the effective filing date of the claimed invention that the print head as
`
`taught by Sato as modified by Seiko has a first squeegee and a second squeegee and control
`
`device configured so that during movement in the arrangement direction and also during return at
`
`least one of the first and second squeegees is in contact with the mask as taught by Abe as a
`
`simple substitution of one known print head element for another to obtain predictable results
`
`including which alternative of a print head of a squeegee is suggested by Seiko.
`
`Regarding claim 3, Sato as modified by Seiko and Abe teach a component mounting line
`
`comprising: the screen printer according to claim 1 as set forth above; and a component mounter
`
`(M1, M2) capable of which mounts a component on the board on which the paste print has been
`
`formed by the screen printer wherein the component mounter comprises a first board conveying
`
`lane (SMl) and a second board conveying lane (SM2) which are arranged in the arrangement
`
`direction, wherein the first board conveying lane is capable of which carries in the board on
`
`which the paste print has been formed using the first pattern, and wherein the second conveying
`
`lane is capable of which carries in the board on which the paste print has been formed using the
`
`second pattern (Figure 5).
`
`Regarding claim S, Sato as modified by Seiko and Abe teaches a component mounting
`
`line comprising: the screen printer according to claim 1 as set forth above; and a component
`
`

`mounter (M) capable of which mounts a component on the board on which the paste print has

`
`the second pattern (Figures 1 and 4).

`Claim 5 is rejected under 35 U.S.C. 103 as being unpatentable over Seiko and Abe as
`
`applied to claim 1 above, and further in view of Sato.
`
`Seiko as modified by Abe above teach a line comprising: the screen printer according to
`
`claim 1 as set forth above and a board conveying lane (21) capable of which carries the board on
`
`which the paste print has been formed by using the first pattern and the board on which the paste
`
`print has been formed by using the second pattern (Figure 1).
`
`As to the limitation of “a component mounter which mounts a component on the board
`
`on which the paste print has been formed by the screen printer” and “wherein the component
`
`mounter comprises a board conveying lane which carries in the board”, Seiko does not expressly
`
`teach a component mounter. However, conventional board conveying lane capable of which
`
`carries the board on which the paste print has been formed carries in the board to a component
`
`mounter (M) capable of which mounts a component on the board on which the paste print has
`
`been formed by the screen printer as taught by Sato. It would have been obvious to one of
`
`ordinary skill in the art before the effective filing date of the claimed invention to further include
`
`on the board conveying lane in Seiko as modified by Abe a component mounter as taught by
`
`Sato as is the conventional use for the paste print to predictably mount a component on the board
`
`using the paste print.

`Claims 2 and 4 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 103 as being unpatentable over Sato, Seiko,
`
`and Abe as applied to claims 1, 3, and 5 above, and further in view of Nagao (US. Patent
`
`Application Publication 2011/0180588).
`
`Regarding claim 2, Sato further teaches a board carry—in unit (Enl, En2 of Figure 6)
`
`capable of which transfers a board carried in from an upstream machine (CLl, CL2 or L1, L2)
`
`having a first pitch (Ptl) to the board holding/moving mechanism and a board carry—out unit
`
`(EXl, EX2 of Figure 6) capable of which receives the board on which a paste print has been
`
`formed by the print head from the board holding/moving mechanism and carries out the board to
`
`a downstream machine (SMl, SM2 or M1, M2) having a second pitch (Pt2).
`
`As to the limitations of “a board carry—in unit which is movable in the arrangement
`
`direction” and “a board carry—out unit which is movable in the arrangement direction”, Sato does
`
`not appear to expressly teach the board carry—in and carry—out units are capable of which are
`
`movable in the arrangement direction. However, board carry units (10A, 10B) of the type taught
`
`by Sato capable of transferring a board between machine (M4) and board holding mechanism
`
`(M2) are capable of which are movable in the arrangement direction as evidenced by Nagao
`
`(Figures 2 and 3 and Paragraphs 0030, 0035, and 0043). It would have been obvious to one of
`
`ordinary skill in the art before the effective filing date of the claimed invention to replace the
`
`board carry—in unit and board carry—out unit taught by Sato as modified by Seiko and Abe with a
`
`carry unit of the type as taught by Nagao each capable of which is movable in the arrangement
`
`direction as not only is the carry unit taught by Nagao a simple substitution of one known
`
`element for another to obtain predictable results but using the carry unit capable of which is
`
`movable in the arrangement direction allows only a single carry unit is used rather than two and
`
`

`that no matter the desired pitch of the upstream machine or downstream machine alignment
`
`between the upstream machine, board holding/moving mechanism, and downstream machine is
`
`adjustable so as to use any desired pitch without misalignment.
`
`Regarding claim 4, Sato further teaches a board carry—in unit (Enl, En2 of Figure 1)
`
`capable of which transfers a board carried in from an upstream machine to the board
`
`holding/moving mechanism; and a board carry—out unit (EX of Figure 1) capable of which
`
`receives the board on which the paste print has been formed by the print head from the board
`
`holding/moving mechanism, and which carries out the board to a downstream machine, wherein
`
`the board holding/moving mechanism is movable among a first position corresponding to the
`
`first area, a second position corresponding to the second area, and a third position which is
`
`located between the first position and the second position and at which the board is transferred to
`
`the board carry—out unit.
`
`As to the limitation of “which is movable in the arrangement direction” and “at which the
`
`board is received from the board carry—in unit”, Sato does not appear to expressly teach the board
`
`carry—in unit is capable of which is movable in the arrangement direction. However, board carry
`
`units (10A, 10B) of the type taught by Sato capable of transferring a board between a machine
`
`(M4) and a board holding mechanism (M2) are capable of movable in the arrangement direction
`
`as evidenced by Nagao. It would have been obvious to one of ordinary skill in the art before the
`
`effective filing date of the claimed invention to replace the board carry—in unit taught by Sato as

`modified by Seiko and Abe with a carry unit of the type as taught by Nagao capable of which is
`
`movable in the arrangement direction as not only is the carry unit taught by Nagao a simple
`
`substitution of one known element for another to obtain predictable results but using the carry

`
`third position.

`Terminal Disclaimer

`The terminal disclaimer filed on 11/9/ 16 disclaiming the terminal portion of any patent
`
`granted on this application which would extend beyond the expiration date of US. Patent No.

`9,420,702, US. Application No. 14/661,366, and US. Application No. 14/612,875 has been

`reviewed and is accepted. The terminal disclaimer has been recorded.
`
`Response to Arguments
`

`Applicant’s arguments with respect to claims 1—5 have been considered but are moot
`
`because the arguments do not apply to any of the references being used in the current rejection.
`
`The new limitations are fully addressed above.
`
`Applicants argue, “Seiko only discloses moving from the start position to the first or
`
`second area in a state where squeegee (print head 34) and the mask 33 are in contact. Seiko's
`
`squeegee isn’t in contact with the mask as the print head is returned to the start position.”.
`
`Seiko does not teach any criticality that the print head is not in contact with the mask as
`
`the print head is returned to the start position. Seiko does teach using a print head of squeegee
`
`type without expressly describing the movement of such a print head wherein a print head of
`
`

`squeegee type includes the squeegee is in contact with the mask as the print head is returned to

`the start position as evidenced by Abe.

`Applicants further argue, “Instead, Sato requires that two print heads be provided, namely
`
`24A and 24B, with one print head located over each of the first area and the second area of the
`
`mask (Please see last sentence of paragraph [0042])” and “Instead, Sato’s print heads 24A and
`
`24B move in a direction which perpendicular to the arrangement direction (Please see FIG.3).
`
`That is, Sato’s print heads 24A and 24B move substantially parallel to the direction of travel of
`
`the boards which are printed by the screen printer.” and “However, this disregards the fact that
`
`Sato and Seiko provide completely different solutions to the two—lane printing mechanism, with
`
`Sato providing two print heads which are each adapted to move in a direction perpendicular to
`
`the “arrangement direction”, while Seiko provides a single print head which moves in the
`
