`Reply to Office Action Dated November 17, 2016
`
`REMARKS
`
`The examiner is thanked for the clearly stated action and for conducting an
`
`interview on January 12, 2017. The present amendment is filed in response to the final Office
`
`Action mailed November 17, 2016, and under a Request for Continued Examination (RCE)
`
`concurrently filed herewith. Claims 10-11, 13-15, 18-19, 21-23 and 28-37 were pending, of
`
`which claims 10, 11, 18 and 19 are independent.
`
`In the present amendment, applicant has amended independent claims 10, 11, 18
`
`and 19, to more particularly recite the subject matter that applicant considers as their invention.
`
`Applicant has amended dependent claims 13-15, 21-23 and 30-37 for consistency with the
`
`amendments made to their base claims, and added new dependent claims 38-45. No new matter
`
`has been added.
`
`Claims 10, 11, 18 and 19, as amended, now recite that the monitoring camera [or
`
`the sensor], when detecting a malfunction state of the monitoring camera [or the sensor],
`
`transmits a malfunction detection signal to the master device. The master device transmits
`
`notification information, generated based on the malfunction detection signal, to a smartphone
`
`to display a warning screen. The master device, when receiving a request from the smartphone,
`
`"transmit[s] detailed information about the malfunction detection signal including a suspected
`
`reason for the malfunction state of the monitoring camera [or the sensor] to the smartphone for
`
`display. "

`
`For example, as shown in an example illustrated in FIG. 12 of the application
`
`reproduced above, the monitoring camera, when detecting a malfunction state of the monitoring
`
`camera, transmits a malfunction detection signal to the master device. The master device
`
`transmits notification information, generated based on the malfunction detection signal, to a
`
`smartphone to display a warning screen of D1 and/or D2 above, wherein warning screen D1
`
`indicates that a device type "CAMERA" has detected a malfunction state, and warning screen D2
`
`indicates which one ("Camera 1" in the illustrated example) of multiple cameras has detected the
`
`malfunction state. The master device, in response to a request received from the smartphone
`
`(e.g., a user tapping on the smartphone), transmits detailed information about the malfunction
`
`detection signal including a suspected reason for the malfunction state of the monitoring camera
`
`to the smartphone for display. For example, detailed information screen D3 displays "Cold
`
`Alert" (low temperature) as a suspected reason for the malfunction state detected in the outdoor
`
`monitoring camera.
`
`Applicant has reviewed the prior art and submits that none teaches or suggests the
`
`subject matter now explicitly recited in each of claims 10, 11, 18 and 19.

`
`Application No. 14/670,307
`Reply to Office Action Dated November 17, 2016
`
`In a telephone call on February 6, 2017, the Examiner indicated US. Patent
`
`Application Publication No. 2008/0098068 (Ebata) as of potential relevance. Applicant has
`
`reviewed Ebata and respectfully submits that Ebata fails to teach or suggest the subject matter
`
`now explicitly recited in claims 10, 11 18 and 19. Ebata describes displaying "[t]he sensor alarm
`
`viewer 142-2 shown in FIG. 12
`
`responsive to receipt of alarm information [e.g., a fire or
`
`illegal invasion] from the camera control device 30 or sensor control device 40." Ebata,
`
`111l[0023] &[0072]. "The head off1cer 12" then may select "Communication Now" on a screen
`
`"to send a message with its content of 'Report a present situation' toward every under-
`
`management subject." Ebata, 11[0073]. "After having sent this message, the present situations as
`
`sent from respective under-management subjects are displayed on the monitor 14" such as a
`
`temperature measured by a temperature sensor or a camera-captured video image and
`
`information. Ebata, 11[0074]. As such, Ebata does not teach that a monitoring camera or a
`
`sensor, when detecting a malfunction state of the monitoring camera or the sensor, transmits a
`
`malfunction detection signal to the master device. Ebata further fails to teach or suggest that the
`
`master device transmits notification information, generated based on the malfi/nction detection
`
`signal, to a smartphone to display a warning screen. Ebata still further fails to teach or suggest
`
`that the master device, when receiving a request from the smartphone, "transmit[s] detailed
`
`information about the malfunction detection signal including a suspected reason for the
`
`malfunction state of the monitoring camera [or the sensor] to the smartphone for display."
`
`The rest of the claims depend from one of claims 10, 11, 18 and 19 and, thus,
`
`these dependent claims are further believed to be allowable for at least the reasons why their
`
`respective base clams are allowable.

`
`Closing
`
`The present application including claims 10-11, 13-15, 18-19, 21-23 and 28-45, as
`
`amended, is now believed to be in condition for allowance. Favorable consideration and a
`
`Notice of Allowance are earnestly solicited.
