Application No. 16/089,279
`Reply to Office Action Dated November 12, 2020
`
`REMARKS
`
`Applicant respectfully requests reconsideration of this application in view of the above
`
`amendments and the following remarks. Claims 1-15 will be pending upon entry ofthis
`
`amendment. Claims 1, 3 and 13-15 are amended. No new matter has been addedto the
`
`application.
`
`35 USC.
`
`§112(f)
`
`is Not Invoked
`
`The office has interpreted the claim term “mapper” as used in claims 1 and 13 as
`
`invoking 35 U.S.C. §112(f). Applicant did not intend to invoke 35 U.S.C. §112(f) and has
`
`amended claims | and 13, as set forth above, by replacing the claim term in question with
`
`“mapping circuitry,” which clearly connotes structure, to make it more clear that 35 U.S.C.
`
`§112(f) is not invoked.
`
`Rejections Under 35 U.S.C. § 103 are Overcome
`
`Claims 1-2, 4-11, and 13-15 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 103 as being unpatentable over
`
`Yang et al. (US 2014/0086119) in view of Shenet al. (US 2012/0135773).
`
`Claims 3 and 12 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 103 as being unpatentable over Yang and
`
`Shen as applied to claim 2 above, and further in view of Yin et al. (US 2013/0083736).
`
`Applicant has amendedindependentclaims 1 and 13-15 to more particularly recite that “a
`
`first number of TTIs mapped onto the uplink subframeis larger than a second numberof TTIs
`
`for mapping onto the uplink portion of a special subframe.” Support for the claimed subject
`
`matter is found, for example, in FIGS. 10 and 11, reproduced below, andthe related description
`
`in the application asfiled:
`
`

`

`Application No. 16/089,279
`Reply to Office Action Dated November 12, 2020
`
`Fig. 90
`B
`
`Fig. 74
`
`For example, FIG. 10 shows two examples, in which either “3 short UL TTIs” or “1 short
`
`UL TTI”is used for mapping onto the uplink portion of a special subframe (‘UpPTS”). FIG. 11
`
`illustrates four examples, in which any of 14, 7, 4 or 2 short TTIs are used for mapping onto one
`
`uplink subframe. That is, the combination of FIGS. 10 and 11 andtheir related description
`
`disclose the novel configuration of having a “larger” number of TTIs mapped onto an uplink
`
`subframe (e.g., 14, 7, 4 or 2 TTIs) than a number of TTIs for mapping onto the uplink portion of
`
`a special subframe(e.g., 3 or 1 TTI(s)). One technical advantage of the claimed configuration is
`
`to address “a relatively high latency which is caused by limited resources for transmitting
`
`ACK/NACKfeedback on the uplink.., [the] latency ... due to less opportunities for the uplink
`
`data.” (See [0081] of the application as published, US Pub. No. 2020/03 14840).
`
`

`

`Application No. 16/089,279
`Reply to Office Action Dated November 12, 2020
`
`Such is not taught or suggested by any ofthe prior art cited against the present
`
`application. For example, while the office has found that Shen, in fig. 6 and paragraphs 57-60,
`
`teaches “the second portion of the special subframeis shorter (half as long) than the full TTI of
`
`an UL subframe”(Office Action, page 6), Shenis silent as to providing a larger number of TTIs
`
`mapped onto an uplink subframe than a number of TTIs for mapping onto the uplink portion of a
`
`special subframe. Yang and Yin too are silent on the claimed subject matter and thusfail to cure
`
`the deficiencies of Shen.
`
`Therefore, claims 1 and 13-15, as amended, are now believed to be clearly allowable over
`
`the prior art. Allowance of claims 1 and 13-15 as well as claims 2-12 that depend from
`
`allowable claim 1 is respectfully requested.
`
`Conclusion
`
`Forat least these reasons, Applicant respectfully requests allowance of the pending claims.
`
`In the event the Examinerfinds minor informalities that can be resolved by telephone conference
`
`or if the Examinerbelieves a telephone conference would facilitate prosecution of this application,
`
`the Examiner is urged to contact Applicant’s undersigned representative by telephone at (206)
`
`622-4900 in order to expeditiously resolve prosecution of this application.
`
`Respectfully submitted,
